How to Play Taming Defense
Survive your first weeks, earn currency, tame pets, and prepare before The Lich hunts on Day 20.
Taming Defense on Roblox by BaseBuddies blends pet taming, base building, and nightly survival into one long challenge: last 365 in-game days while the world grows deadlier. If you have never played a tame-and-defend experience before, the first hour can feel overwhelming — days are short, nights are dangerous, and The Lich begins hunting on Day 20, returning every night after that.
This guide gives you a practical first-week roadmap. Pair it with Controls for keybinds, How to Tame for companions, and Base Building before your walls need to hold real pressure.
Your objective
The win condition is survival across 365 days. You lose when your character dies without recovery or when your base is overrun beyond repair. There is no single “finish line” quest — progress is measured in days survived, pets tamed, structures built, and bosses outlasted.
Treat each day as a resource puzzle. Daytime is for gathering, crafting, taming, and expanding. Nighttime is for defense, repair, and executing pet orders against whatever raids your current day bracket spawns.
First session checklist
Before sunset on Day 1, complete these steps:
- Redeem codes — Visit the Codes Hub and follow How to Redeem. Active codes grant up to 280 Gold and 20 Ruby if you claim all four working strings.
- Learn controls — Open Controls or the Controls Cheatsheet. At minimum, memorize B (inventory), G (pet menu), F (interact), and M1 (use/attack).
- Gather basics — Collect wood, stone, or whatever starter materials the tutorial highlights. Craft a weapon and a few wall segments.
- Place initial walls — Even a partial box gives you time to react when night falls. See Base Building for snap and rotation tips.
- Tame your first pet — Follow How to Tame to secure one companion before Day 3–5 when raids intensify.
Day-night rhythm
Days in Taming Defense are your economic engine. Explore, mine, farm, trade, and expand territory while visibility is good. Assign pets to Follow or Gather during daylight using commands covered in Pet Commands.
Nights flip the priority to defense. Position pets on Guard or Attack, repair breaches, and stay near choke points. After Day 20, The Lich joins the night roster — plan ahead so Day 19 ends with upgraded walls and a full pet squad.
Currencies: Gold and Ruby
Gold is the everyday currency. You earn it from gameplay, quests, and promo codes. Spend Gold on tools, building pieces, food, and common pet supplies early.
Ruby is premium and scarcer. Code !KUTCHAWANTS2PLAYZ grants 20 Ruby alongside 100 Gold. Save Ruby for high-value pets or shop items flagged as rare until you read Best Pets and the Pet Tier List.
Do not hoard Gold past Day 10 if your base is still open sky — invest in walls and pet food instead.
Pets and combat basics
Pets are not cosmetic. They tank hits, deal damage, and hold lines while you craft or repair. Open the pet menu with G, assign slots with 1–6, and issue orders: Q Follow, T Attack, U Guard, Z Stay, V Select All.
Compare species on the Tier List once you have two or three tames. Mid-tier pets well commanded beat higher-tier pets left on Follow in the back row.
Building toward Day 20
Days 1–7 are tutorial pace. Days 8–19 are your construction window. By Day 15 you should have:
- A closed perimeter with at least one choke-point gate
- Two or more pets on Guard rotation at night
- A stockpile of repair materials
- Familiarity with R rotate and X snap toggle from the building controls
If any item on that list is missing, prioritize it over exploration. Survive The Lich explains why Day 20 is the difficulty cliff.
Mid-game and beyond
After The Lich appears, nights become a routine boss check. Days 21–100 focus on layering defenses, diversifying pet roles, and farming Gold for advanced structures. Consult Build Tier List when choosing layout upgrades.
Check Updates Hub after patches — BaseBuddies adjusts spawn tables and pet stats periodically. Scripts exist but are optional; mechanics in these guides work without automation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the main goal in Taming Defense?
Survive 365 in-game days while building a base and taming pets. The Lich begins hunting on Day 20 and returns every night afterward.
What should I do on Day 1 in Taming Defense?
Redeem codes, learn controls, gather materials, place starter walls, and tame your first pet before the first few nights get harder.
What is the difference between Gold and Ruby?
Gold is common currency for tools, walls, and everyday purchases. Ruby is rare and best spent on premium pets or high-value shop items.
